Leslie Calvin “Les” Brown, an American politician and motivational speaker, was born on February 17, 1945. He served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1977 to 1981.
Brown and his twin brother, Wesley, were both born in Liberty City, a less affluent area of Miami, Florida. Mamie Brown, a 38-year-old single woman who worked as a bar hostess and housekeeper, adopted her. Brown argues that the “treacherous delay” label he received in elementary school destroyed his confidence and self-esteem.
Many of Brown’s speeches state that when he first tried to get on public radio, he had a series of failures. He wasn’t employed full-time until the afternoon DJ made mistakes on the show the day before. After being fired from the radio station, he successfully ran and was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives. After leaving the Ohio state legislature, he changed careers in television and began hosting PBS.
From September to November 1993 he was the host of the talk show The Les Brown Show.
From 2011 to 2012, Brown hosted a daily radio show on KFWB in California.
