Ginger Zee is ABC News’ chief meteorologist and covers the nation’s weather on Good Morning America and ABC News broadcast and digital platforms. She was previously the weather forecaster for Good Morning America, Weekend. In addition, Zee hosts an original ABC News digital series, Food Forecast.
Since joining ABC News, Zee has covered nearly every major weather event and dozens of historic storms. He broadcast from the devastated Jersey Shore during Hurricane Sandy, the Colorado floods and wildfires, and the aftermath of tornadoes in Moore and El Reno, Oklahoma. In 2013, he covered extreme weather conditions ranging from the Boston Blizzard to the unrelenting heat of Death Valley. In 2016, Zee covered Hurricane Matthew and its path across the East Coast.
Zee’s passion doesn’t end with storm chasing. Her spirit of adventure has taken her and ABC News viewers around the world. He flew a parafalcon in Nepal, flew a drone into a fission volcano in Iceland, walked through the world’s largest cave in Vietnam, paraglided from the Himalayas to the Andes, dived with sharks in the Bahamas, climbed 27 stories in the Bahamas drove… Facade of the Wit Hotel in Chicago. Plus skydiving, ice boat racing and live surfing on GMA.
Before joining ABC News, she was a meteorologist for NBC’s WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago from 2006 to 2011 and also appeared on various shows on NBC and MSNBC News. Prior to this assignment, Zee worked at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, MI where he was part of Storm Team 8 and also covered the environment, science and effects of weather across western Michigan. From 2003 to 2005, Zee worked at WEYI NBC 25 in Flint, MI. He began his career at WLAV FM/WXMI in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Zee, who has been following Sturm since college, has a real passion for atmosphere and a commitment to getting young people interested in science. Zee lends her voice to “Dr. Zephyr Skye, the storm-chasing alien from the hit Disney Junior show Miles from Tomorrowland. Zee and her husband, Ben Aaron, also star on the DIY Network’s “Renovation Realities: Ben & Ginger.”
The Emmy Award-winning meteorologist attended Valparaíso University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. From 2008 to 2011 she was also an adjunct professor at the university. Zee also holds the CBM Seal of Meteorology. She lives in New York City.
