Rhyl alumnus Tanner Morgan goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The quarterback signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent on Saturday night after a memorable run as a center at the University of Minnesota.
Morgan is currently one of three quarterbacks on the Steelers roster behind starter Kenny Pickett and seven-year veteran Mitch Trubisky.
Morgan set several school records with the Golden Gophers.
In 2019, he set season records for passing yards (3,253) and touchdowns (30). He finished the season as the best quarterback in Golden Gophers history with 33.
Morgan threw for over 10,000 yards in high school uniform, in his last two seasons with Rhyl. In his senior year with the Raiders, he passed for 2,747 yards and 27 touchdowns, helping Ryle finish 12–1.

Tanner Morgan is a football quarterback who played college football for the University of Minnesota. He was born on February 17, 1999, in Union, Kentucky, USA. Tanner Morgan attended Ryle High School in Union, Kentucky where he played high school football for the Ryle Raiders.
During his high school career, Tanner Morgan threw for over 4,600 yards and 51 touchdowns and also ran for over 1,000 yards and 25 touchdowns. He was named first-team All-State as a senior and was rated as a three-star recruit by most recruiting services.
After graduating from Ryle High School, Tanner Morgan committed to playing college football at the University of Minnesota. He redshirted his freshman year in 2017 but played in four games, completing 13 of 18 passes for 214 yards and a touchdown.
In 2018, Tanner Morgan became the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Golden Gophers midway through the season. He finished the year with 1,401 passing yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions. In 2019, he had a breakout season, throwing for 3,253 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions, leading the Gophers to an 11-2 record and a victory in the Outback Bowl. He was named the MVP of the bowl game.
Tanner Morgan continued his college career in 2020 and 2021, throwing for over 3,000 yards each year and leading the team as their starting quarterback. After his junior season, he declared for the 2022 NFL Draft but went undrafted.
