Jimmy competed in the 2005 Four Nations Tournament as a member of the 2005-06 US U-17 National Team. He then competed in the Ivan Hlinka Under-18 Memorial Tournament for the USA Under-17 Select Team in 2006. He then got a chance to play for the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets after the team drafted him in the 2006 USHL Futures Draft.
