Beloved actor Robbie Coltrane passed away at the age of 72 after a long battle with lung cancer. Coltrane was best known for his role as Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter series and is also well known for his roles in Dead Ringers and Once. He leaves behind his wife and two children. Popular actor Robbie Coltrane, who played Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter series, recently passed away on Friday, October 14th at the age of 72.

The news was confirmed by Coltrane’s agent Belinda Wright, who said he breathed his last at a hospital in Larbert, Scotland. He said his performance as Hagrid brought joy to children and adults around the world. Wright added,

“Personally, I will remember him as an eternally loyal customer. As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly funny, and after 40 years of proudly being called his agent, he will be missed.

Although Robbie Coltrane’s agent confirmed the news of his death, he withheld any information about the cause of his death. The actor has had health issues in the past, but it’s not clear if these played a role in his death.

Coltrane had to go through a lot of pain due to his arthritis. One of her photos went viral in 2019, where she was in a wheelchair and unable to walk. Sources at the time revealed he had been in pain for a long time and was planning to have knee replacement surgery when the condition damaged his joints.

Coltrane once spoke about his health struggles, saying he battled pain 24 hours a day while starring in National Treasure and Great Expectations. He added that he had no cartilage in his knee and would not wish such pain on his worst enemy.

According to sources, the actor was also in and out of the launch of Universal Orlando’s new attraction Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Ride, a Harry Potter event in 2019, surprising his fans as they’ve always seen him standing strong and tall.
