Jerry Lee Lewis is an American singer and pianist, he has been described as “rock and roll’s first great wild” and one of the most influential pianists of the 20th century.

Lee was born into a family of poor farmers in East Louisiana. He started playing piano as a child with his cousins Mickey Gilley (later a well-known country singer) and Jimmy Swaggart (later a well-known televangelist).

He began recording in late 1956 and recorded his biggest hit “Great Balls of Fire” in 1957.

Lewis recorded 17 top-10 singles between 1968 and 1977. By 1977, Lewis was one of the most bankable country stars in the world, and in 1986 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2006 he released another album titled Last Man Standing, it stayed at number 1 for two weeks.

Is Jerry Lee Lewis dead or alive?

In 2019, Lewis suffered a massive stroke and had to cancel all concerts planned for that year. He recovered and an online concert was held in 2020 to celebrate Lewis’s 85th birthday, featuring Elton John, Willie Nelson, and Priscilla Presley.

Lewis is still very much alive and doing well for an 87-year-old rock star.

Lewis joined Sun Studios as a studio musician in 1956 and recorded his first single, Crazy Arms. This song was well received locally, but it wasn’t until a year later that it really set the world on fire with Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On. It was a top hit on the pop, country, and R&B charts. He was able to really express his fun-loving nature by playing the piano standing up and “shaking” it, showing the world just how much energy and enthusiasm he had.

His next single “Great Balls of Fire” cemented his reputation as “The Killer”. He topped the charts in December 1957, and in March of the following year, he released Breathless, which was also a hit. Lewis released High School Confidential in 1958, which became his last hit before his rock ‘n’ roll career took off.
