Emma Watson, full Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, (born 15 April 1990 in Paris, France), is a British actress and activist perhaps best known for playing the young witch Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films. She has also attracted attention as a spokeswoman for equal rights for women.
Watson was born in Paris to British parents who divorced when she was young. She and her brother moved to live with their mother in Oxfordshire, England. As a child, Watson decided to become an actress. In addition to going to school, she took acting and singing lessons. She also appeared in several school plays.

After the Potter films ended, Watson sought more mature roles. Her first major role was in the drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), in which she played a high school student who befriends a clinically depressed freshman. She then appeared in the crime drama The Bling Ring (2013), the historical thriller The Colony (aka Colonia; 2015), and the sci-fi thriller The Circle (2017).
These films had limited box office success, but Watson had another blockbuster success with Disney’s (2017) live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. In 2019, she appeared as Meg March in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, based on the classic children’s book by Louisa May Alcott.

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born to Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers, in Paris, France. She lived in the city until she was five years old but after her parents divorced; She moved to Oxfordshire with her mother and younger brother.
She dreamed of being an actress from a young age and took coaching courses at Stagecoach Theater Arts to pursue her dreams while attending the Dragon School in Oxford.
By the age of 10, she had acted in several theater productions and plays. At the request of her teachers, she decides to audition for the role of Harry’s best friend, Hermione Granger.
She auditioned for the role eight times, beating all of her seniors to get the part. Interestingly, she won the heart of author JK Rowling herself at the audition.
She left Dragon School in 2003 and due to her busy filming schedule, she was tutored for over 5 hours a day for her GCSE exams. She finally passed her GCSE exams the following year, achieving two A’s and eight A’s*.
