Is Britney Spears Still Alive or Dead?

Britney Spears was the subject of a joke on Monday

Sony Music’s Twitter account tweeted twice that the singer was dead

The tweets have since been deleted and the Spears rep told CNN that she is alive and well.

(CNN) Britney Spears is alive despite a hoax claiming her death on Monday.

Sony Music’s Twitter account, which appears to have been hacked, posted two tweets claiming Spears was dead, “RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney 1981-2016” and “Britney spears accidentally died! We’ll tell you more. soon #RIPBritney.

The tweets have since been deleted.

The Spears rep was quick to tell CNN that the pop star was alive.

“I assume her account has been hacked,” Spears manager Adam Leber told CNN. “I haven’t talked to anyone … until now, but I’m sure her account has been hacked. Britney is fine and she is fine. There have been some clowns on the Internet over the years who have made similar claims about la his death, but never on Sony Music’s official Twitter account. ”

Liz Young, Sony Music’s head of global communications, repeatedly told CNN that she “has no comment.”

Bob Dylan’s official Twitter account may also be hacked. She tweeted “rest in peace @britneyspears” around the same time the Sony account tweeted.

At least one newspaper was quick to break the “news” before finding out if it was really true. Mirror Online in the UK ran an article starting with “Britney Spears is dead according to Sony Music” before ending with the statement: “However, it appears Sony’s Twitter account has been hacked.” The article was later updated to make it clear that the story was a hoax.

The tweets from the Sony account appeared to indicate a connection to OurMine, a group previously linked to hacking the Twitter accounts of other prominent individuals and organizations. OurMine claims that they are not hackers but a security group that examines accounts to see if they are safe.
