Born August 22, 1990 to Pete and Jane Thielen in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Adam, like most Detroit kids, grew up a fan of the Vikings and Pro Football Hall of Famer Chris Carter. Adam attended Detroit Lakes High School where he played four sports: football, basketball, baseball and golf. What a child he is! Football set him apart by being named all-conference and all-state.
In 2008, he entered graduate school at the University of Minnesota to study management, and as expected, Adam was not found in the Minnesota Mavericks football program. As a sophomore, Adam Thielen was named the Minnesota State Offensive Player of the Year and made the All-NSIC South Division second team, leading his team with 41 receptions for 686 yards and 6 touchdowns after his final collegiate season in 2012, he had five receptions for 100 yards and 167 career receptions.
Despite high hopes of making the big leagues, Thielen floundered in 2013. Came home undrafted in the NFL draft. He then went to tryouts and rookie tryouts by the Minnesota Vikings in Winter Park, where his favorite boyhood team signed him to a nondenomination contract after a promising showing. However, he did not make the roster but was still signed to the training squad on September 1 when he was released in 2013. August 1st
The purple and gold prodigy played his first game for the Vikings in a preseason game against the Oakland Raiders, and after his impressive performance, Adam earned a spot on the 2014 roster. on the 53-man of the year list.
On the season, rookie Adam Thielen recorded 8 catches for 137 yards and a 17.1 average with a sack. He was named the All-Pro Special Teams Kick Return Unit and the All-NFC North Special Teams Player of the Year.
The 2015 American football season was even better for him. Adam Thielen was the Vikings Special Teams Player of the Year as they captured the NFC North title this season. He has 12 catches for 144 yards and a 30-yard touchdown this season.
